The Mexican Fisherman
chasque aquí para el español
An American investment banker on
vacation in Mexico was trying to make a local fisherman understand that if he
fished longer every day he could make more money.
Ah, the fisherman said,
but if I do that I cant sleep late, play with my children, take a
siesta with my wife, and stroll into the village every night and sip wine and
play the guitar with my friends.
With that, the American scoffed.
I am a Harvard MBA and I could helpyou. You should spend more time
fishing, and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat, and then with the proceeds
from the bigger boat you could buy several boats. Eventually you would have a
fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to the middleman, you
could sell directly to the processor, and eventuallyopen your own cannery. You
would control the product, the processing, and the distribution. Of course,
your would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico
City, then to Los Angeles and eventually to New York City, where you would run
your expanding enterprise.
But how long will all this
take? asked the fisherman. The American replied; Fifteen to twenty
years.
But what then? asked the
fisherman. The American laughed and said, Thats the best part. When
the time is right you could sell your company stock to the public and become
very rich. You could make millions!
Millions? cried the
fisherman. Then what?
The American answered. Then you
could retire. You could move to a small coastal fishing village where you could
sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife,
and stroll into the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play
your guitar with your friends.
Usted
